At a banquet in the Read House Friday night, much praise and satisfaction was expressed about the first Surgical Congress held here at the various hospitals. Visiting physicians hope this will become an annual affair.

Miss Marie Fowler will return today to her home in Macon, Ga., after a visit with Miss Mary Steward.

Sunday, Sept. 27

Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Whaley announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Lee, to Carl Thomas A. Douglas. The wedding will take place in October at the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Mr. and Mrs. J.I. Carter announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lucille, to James Arthur Glascock of Cincinnati. Mr. Glascock is the son of Rev. and Mrs. J.L. Glascock, and is connected with Proctor and Gamble.

Miss Inez Hyder will return from New York, where she’s been studying modern dancing under the Castles. She also taught dancing while in New York at the Studio Club.

Monday, Sept. 28

Mr. and Mrs. D.F. Beckham have returned to the city from their summer home on Walden’s Ridge.

Mrs. M.M. Allison has returned from Chevy Chase, where she accompanied her daughter, Mary Bertha, who entered the Seminary.

Tuesday, Sept. 29

Mr. and Mrs. Bierne Andrews of Dayton, Tenn., have returned home after a visit with Mrs. Garnett Andrews on Lookout Mountain.

Mrs. Annabel Scott McDonald is home from a visit to relatives in Scotland. Miss Dora Maclellan, who accompanied Mrs. McDonald, will return next week.

Dr. and Mrs. Dunbar Newell and Dr. E.T. Newell will entertain the nurses of Newell’s Sanitarium with a “spend the day” party at Glen Mary, the Dunbar Newell’s home on Walden’s Ridge.

Wednesday, Sept. 30

Mrs. W.E. Brock and children left Tuesday for a visit to her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Acree in Clarksville.

Mrs. A.C. Hord and Mrs. C.S. Selover of Cleveland, Ohio arrived Tuesday night to attend the funeral of their uncle, Col. H.B. Case.

Thursday, Oct. 1

Mrs. Earl Lazenby was hostess of the North Chattanooga Book Club at the home of her mother, Mrs. Robert Biese. The topic of the program was “The Cradle of Education and Literature.” Mrs. C.C. Chaffee will be hostess for the next meeting of the club.

Mrs. John Gilbreath is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frazier, in Dayton, Tenn.

The Citizens National Bank established in 1889 at the corner of Broad and Ninth Streets is celebrating 25 years of successful business. G.N. Henson is president of the bank.

Friday, Oct. 2

Mrs. William Lasley and daughter, Katherine, are home from an extensive stay at Fischers Island and other eastern points.

Mrs. Robert T. Faucette and children are expected to return this week from a visit in North Carolina.

On the campus of Hixson High School, four or five thousand people gathered Thursday to attend an Educational Rally. The crowd, representing both city and county schools, was much larger than was expected. There was a parade led by Blanche Eldridge and Willie Brown. The principal speaker for the occasion, Prof. Harry Clarke of University of Tennessee, was introduced by Prof. J.L. Hair. v
