An abundance of bluegrass entertainment will be showcased Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3, during the ninth annual 3 Sisters Music Festival, hosted by Fletcher Bright Realty. Held at Ross’ Landing, the free event will feature the top names in contemporary and traditional bluegrass.
The 3 Sisters Festival was recently recognized as “one of the top five bluegrass festivals in the country” by Great American Country magazine. The event begins on Friday at 6 with music by local bluegrass favorites The Dismembered Tennesseans, followed by The Railsplittersat 6:50, the Grammy award-nominated Della Mae at 8:10, and Hot Rize.
Tim O’Brien, Pete Wernick, Nick Forster, and Charles Sawtelle formed Hot Rize in 1978, and were known as the International Bluegrass Music Association’s first Entertainers of the Year. Following the passing of guitarist Charles Sawtelle in 1999, Hot Rize re-grouped in 2002, adding Bryan Sutton to play the guitar.
Hot Rize quickly climbed to the top of the charts in 1979 with a then-new bluegrass Grammy, a four-star album review in Rolling Stone magazine, and multiple world and national tours.
On Saturday, beginning at noon, local band The Hamilton County Ramblers will kick off a full day of bluegrass entertainment as the 3 Sisters Festival continues. Bluetastic Fangrass will take the stage at 1 p.m., followed by The Lone Mountain Band at 2 p.m., Berklee College of Music Fiddlers at 3 p.m., Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper at 4 p.m., Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen at 5:30 p.m., Front Country at 7 p.m., and The Travelin’ McCourys, headlining the final set of the 3 Sisters Music Festival on Saturday beginning at 8:30 p.m.
3 Sisters merchandise and performer merchandise will be available for sale on site. Beer, food and non-alcoholic drink concessions will also be available. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets; however, no outside food or beverages are allowed.
This year, the Folk School of Chattanooga will be a non-profit affiliate of the festival, with information on-site about the school and a chance to offer donations to their programs.
