Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews soon will begin a project to address drainage issues at the I-24 West ramps at Exit 174 to U.S. 41 (Cummings Highway) in the Lookout Valley community in Chattanooga. The area frequently floods during heavy rainfall, requiring interstate ramps and U.S. 41 to be closed to traffic until the water recedes.
Talley Construction of Rossville, Georgia, is the contractor for the $484,000 project, which is slated for completion on or before Nov. 15.
Talley installed construction signs on Wednesday, Sept. 12. During the project, the contractor will perform excavation work on the interstate ramps and Cummings Highway, after which they will install drainage structures.
At least one lane in each direction will be open at all times. The contractor currently plans to work six days a week but will work more if necessary.
Drivers who must travel through this area are encouraged to be alert to changing conditions in the work zone and be mindful of the crews working in the area.
