Saturday, September 10
Robert H. Griffith was named mayor of the town of Lookout Mountain at the first regular meeting of the commission since the August election. Griffith succeeds Cecil Woods, who did not seek re-election.

Monday, September 12
C. Graham Buchanan, local representative of King Merritt & Company, Inc., mutual investment fund direct sales firm, was awarded a citation for distinguished achievement in sales at the annual international convention held at Miami Beach.

Tuesday, September 13
The patrons of Central Elementary School and other residents of the area agreed Monday night to insist before the city school board that their school be kept open. The school board Monday closed the school on recommendation of Supt. Bennie Carmichael because Central Elementary had an enrollment of only 198 and that G. Russell Brown School and Normal Park had room for Central students.

Wednesday, September 14
About 400 people will convene in Chattanooga Thursday and Friday for the 35th annual outing of the Chattanooga Yarn Association for the two-day golf competition at the Lookout Mountain Club.
