Charles H. Jones, civic leader and owner of Jones Gulf Service Station for 30 years, was honored Friday with an Appreciation Night by Summers–Whitehead American Legion Post 14 for his outstanding service as chairman for Armed Forces Day celebration.
Dr. Foster Hampton, Jr., prominent Chattanooga chest surgeon, was injured crucially in a motorcycle accident in East Chattanooga late Friday night. Dr. Hampton suffered a fractured skull and brain injury.
Sunday, August 9
Plans by Beef & Liberty, Inc., to broaden its restaurant operation into another field were revealed Saturday after it was learned the Chattanooga organization had leased the dining room of the Cherokee Hotel in Cleveland, Tenn. Summerfield K. Johnston, Jr., chairman of the board of Beef & Liberty, said the dining room, completely remodeled and renamed the Jerry House, will serve as a pilot unit in developing a new chain of eating establishments.

E.Y. Chapin, Jr., was elected a member of the board of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. at the Monday board meeting. He will fill the vacancy left by the death of T.L. Montague, Jr.
Tuesday, August 11
Miss Linda Teiber of Colfax, Wash., Junior Miss America, 18, highlighted the Campus Capers fashion show Tuesday in an event sponsored by Miller Bros. Department Store at the Tivoli Theatre. Linda was guest of honor at a banquet given by the Chattanooga Junior Chamber of Commerce Tuesday night at Lakeshore Lodge.
A crowd estimated at between 4,000 and 5,000, described by veteran observers as the largest group ever to watch a golf match of any kind here, turned out for the Arnold Palmer exhibition Tuesday at Valleybrook Golf and Country Club course. Later, at a dinner at Pan-o-Ram club, Arnold Palmer presented his personal check for $1,000 to the local United Fund drive to Campaign Chairman DeSales Harrison.

The Plum Nelly Clothesline Art Show, now in its 18th consecutive year, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4, at its original site, the studio-home of Miss Fannie Mennen on Lookout Mountain in the New Salem community.
Thursday, August 13
V.L. Perkinson, division engineer of the Tennessee Highway Department, and J.B. Sullivan, consulting engineer, presented plans for the multi-million dollar railroad relocation program at a Board of Realtors luncheon Wednesday at Wimberly Inn. It is expected the relocation will be completed in 1967.
TVA has announced a $580,397 contract award to Allis-Chalmers Mfg. Co. of York, Pa., for parts required in transferring two large turbines from the 50-year old Hales Bar Dam to the new Nickajack Dam being built by TVA on the Tennessee River west of Chattanooga.
Friday, August 14
Miss Jane E. Aiken, daughter of Mrs. Ruth Trimby Aiken of 904 Barton Ave., was employed as an assistant engineer. She is the first woman to start with the company in this capacity.
Chickamauga Park is going to celebrate its 74th birthday Wednesday, August 19. The occasion will be reflected in all the historically noted areas included in the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military park complex, according to John Cook, superintendent.
