News has been received that Dr. H. Berlin, Dr. Dunbar Newell, Dr. German Haymore, and Dr. J.S.B. Woolford hope to be able to sail on American liner St. Paul from South Hampton by August 21.

Miss Margaret Saunders will return from Dayton, Tenn., where she has been visiting Miss Katherine Frazier.

Mrs. Frank Hooper is now in New York, and will go to Greenbrier Camp, Alderson, W. Va., to join Prof. Hooper.

Sunday, August 9

Bright summer flowers and shrubs on display in the windows of Silva & Abbotts store on Market Street show what can be grown in the soil of this area to make our city more beautiful. Mr. Abbott’s exhibit from his garden is an object lesson and has reference to the possibilities on the Courthouse lawn.

Miss Dorothy Lynde is the guest of Mrs. L.M. Coleman during Mr. Coleman’s absence from the city.

James and Harold Cash and Joe Davenport, Jr., are camping in the mountains near Asheville, N.C. James Cash graduated in June from University of Virginia, but is returning this fall to study medicine. Harold Cash and Joe Davenport will enter University of Virginia.

Monday, August 10

Miss Marie Patterson of California is visiting her cousin, Miss Bertie Wenning, in Highland Park.

Miss Margaret Pritchard and brother, Robert Pritchard of New Orleans have gone to North Carolina to visit Miss Mary Brown.

Mrs. Will Carswell and Mrs. Thomas Colburn will entertain Wednesday for their guest, Mrs. Thomas of Kentucky.

Tuesday, August 11

Mr. and Mrs. Neal Thompson, Miss Maude Bowser, Miss Crumley, and Gus Richter have returned from a trip to Sullivan Island.

Wednesday, August 12

The burial of Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, wife of President Wilson, will be this afternoon in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Rome, Ga.

Miss Gloria Lamb is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Z.C. Patten, Jr., on Lookout Mountain.

Dr. G. Manning Ellis will arrive in New York Thursday after a visit in Europe.

Thursday, August 13

Mrs. Howard McCall will return this week from a visit in Ogden, Tenn.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cummings have gone on a trip to Atlantic City, New York, and Washington.

Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Meyers have landed in New York. They are returning from a stay in Switzerland. Dr. Meyer is pastor of the First Methodist Church.

Friday, August 14

After 10 years of work, the Panama Canal has been completed and Saturday will be open for the passage of ships of all nations.

Miss Mary Swaney has returned from a visit with Miss Rachel Cooke at Sunnyside.
