Are We There Yet?

Jay Edwards

In honor of surpassing 400 friends on Facebook (some of whom I actually know) I decided to check the posts on Tuesday morning and see if we might learn something, or better yet, just laugh.

The first one there was from myself, and my post of last week’s Daily Record column, which I got a like on from my old buddy Robert Jackson. We last saw Robert hitting two clubs less than normal somewhere near Crested Butte.

Next were two classmates from Catholic High’s class of 1975 (where we proudly wore the Purple and Gold), Joe Busby and Don Campbell, supporting the “No Federal Contracts for Corporate Deserters Act.” Father Tribou would be proud of both those boys for being such concerned citizens.

Post #3 was from Frank Holmes Cox III, co-owner of Leo’s, who posted some very good-looking plates of Fajita’s. Frank had gotten eight comments, which was eight more than Joe and Don had gotten, reinforcing I guess the power of food over political issues.

Next was Damon Thompson, former Phi Delt brother who resides in the nation’s capitol, with his Washington Post post on holograms and politics. Damon, one of my favorite FB friends, had another, better one, three posts down, but I can’t repeat that one here. Damon had one comment on his hologram post, from a guy I don’t know, named Jeff Necessary, who has a better name than he does comments.

Then Donna Blair added a video from Fox Sports of a guy in a derby on a prancing gray horse. It was OK, but not nearly as good as Donna’s nanner puddin’.

Timo Anderson was next, looking dapper at the Trinity Episcopal Church in New Orleans. Come to think of it, Timo has never, not looked dapper. While he didn’t get any comments he did have 36 likes. So I commented, “Looking dapper Timo!” But he knows.

Then Glen Rega, my Realtor friend from Conway, posted about the Yankees and the Red Sox, saying they were “playing again tonight and must have a 150 game head-to-head schedule.” Funny Glen.

Paul Bowen, another great poster with no wasted words, put up a photo of a sign in a yard his brother sent to him, that said, “Lost Airplane,” along with a phone number to call with a reward. Paul got 12 likes; and four of the ten comments were pretty funny.

Urgent update – Judge Morley just liked my column post. He was in it though so take off five points.

Two other way-above average posters, J. Mark “Kingbossdaddy” Davis and Jim “Hawkeye” Hathaway (once again, Class of ’75) shared Guy Clark singing “Baby Took a Limo to Memphis.”

Then from my new favorite friend, Humans of New York (thanks to son Matt Anthony – CHS Class of 2003) – “I was driving out into the Mexican desert with a shaman, and we were on our way to a peyote ceremony. We’d just eaten the peyote, and the shaman turned on the radio, and started playing The Talking Heads. He was this little indigenous dude, just banging on the steering wheel and singing along to The Talking Heads at the top of his lungs. I thought we were supposed to be contemplating life, so I said: ‘Are you sure the radio should be on right now? Is that how the ceremony is supposed to work?’ And he said: ‘This is exactly how it’s supposed to work.’ So I just shut up and rolled with it.”

I am not the only one digging on this. On this post, Humans of New York had 32,314 likes and 1,843 comments.

It’s ones like this that make it all worthwhile.
