Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger on Thursday, July 31 hosted the dedication ceremony of a highway sign and the naming of a section of Highway 58 honoring the late Shane Daughetee.
The sign is a memorial to Daughetee, the volunteer firefighter who lost his life on Jan. 26, 2007 while battling a house fire.
The section of Highway 58 dedicated to the former Firefighter of the Year will extend from Harrison Bay Road to Mahan Gap Road. State Representative Mike Carter was among the speakers.
Representative Carter shepherded the legislation dedicating part of Highway 58 to Daughetee through the General Assembly.
Other speakers sharing their thoughts on Daughetee were his former commander, Highway 58 Fire Chief “Dude” Harris, and Shane’s father, Jim Daughetee.
