Col. Archibald Blakely, 88, died today in Pittsburg. He is said to be the last survivor of the group of prominent men who in 1856 met and took steps to form the Republican Party.
Miss Mamie Bright has returned from New York City where she attended Columbia University.

Several prominent Chattanoogans met with Commodore Albert L. Key to discuss the advisability of establishing an instruction camp at Fort Oglethorpe like the Plattsburg Camp – for men of the South and Southeast.
Hiram Chamberlain, Jr. defeated the former title holder, Putman Morrison, of the City Tennis Championship. They played on the Riverview Courts.
Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Sloan announce the engagement of their daughter, Lavalette Kennedy, to Dr. Harlin Tucker of Nashville.
Monday, Aug. 30
Miss Carrie Beckham of Ensley, Alabama, who has been visiting friends in Chattanooga, will go today to be the guest of Miss Mary Louise Beckham on Walden’s Ridge.
Dr. J.B.S. Woolford, well-known physician, surprised friends with the announcement of his approaching marriage to Miss Eliza W. Winslow of Baltimore.
Mrs. Lily B. Gray and daughter, Ellen Bruce, of Danville, Ky., are the guests of Dr. and Mrs. John D. Walsh on Missionary Ridge.

Mrs. W.S. Milne and family will return today from Old Mission, Mich., where they have been spending the summer.
Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Brooks returned Monday from a vacation at Wrightsville Beach and Monroe, N.C.
Physical Director Tapp of the YMCA announced the list of officials for the “Y’s” annual two-mile swim down the Tennessee River Saturday. They are “Chic” Ellis, A.S. McLundie, T.S. Wilcox, Jr., O.B. Gladish, Max Milligan, Clarence McCollum and R.W. Tapp.

Ralph Wardlaw is recovering from injuries received when his light runabout collided with a touring car driven by Deed Beavers at Rock Springs, Ga.
Miss Vera Kean of London, Canada, came Tuesday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hardie on Signal Mountain.
Thursday, Sept. 2
The fifth anniversary dinner of the Chattanooga Automobile Club will be held tonight at the Patten Hotel. President W.R. Long announced that Judge Nathan Bachman will serve as toastmaster. Clem Woodworth is in charge of the fun program.
The wedding of Miss Catherine Wiggs and William Joseph McNulty was solemnized Wednesday night at the First Baptist Church with Dr. W.F. Powell officiating. Mrs. McNulty is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Wiggs. Mr. McNulty, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.C. McNulty, is connected with Davidson Clothing Co.
Friday, Sept. 3
Miss Frances Blair has returned from a visit with friends in Dalton, Ga.
Misses Frances Biese and Gussie Blanton gave a recital at Cadek Conservatory Thursday night which was a brilliant success. Miss Biese, cellist, leaves next week for the Art Institute of Oklahoma City to teach. Miss Blanton’s several readings were well received.
Mrs. Frederick Clymer of Rockwood is the guest of Mrs. C.E. Buek on Missionary Ridge.
