The poetic justice of the law profession

When first we joined the legal world

So many years ago

We learned pretty quickly

About the ebb and flow

How sometimes life is busy

With deadlines every day

While other days drag slowly

And we may as well just play

How sometimes juries love us

And believe our client’s right

But sometimes they just don’t get it

And let the bad guys off too light.

And we learned that gleaming smiles

Can sometimes turn to frowns

Because the law profession

Is filled with ups and downs

When first they joined the legal world

So many years ago

Some lawyers took up legal arms

In the hopes they’d make good doe

They never really expected

That the dollars that they’d make

Would rise and fall like emotions

As the Dow Jones shakes and bakes…

But now the world is wiser

And know stock markets can’t be trusted

So lawyers just focus on the law

And the Trusts that should be busted

We fight for truth and justice

Without regard to fees

And fight just for the good feeling

Gained from knocking bad guys on their knees

For no longer does it matter

If the other side can pay

No longer does it matter

What financial statements say

Because if we were to triumph

In a green cash kind of way

We’d have no guarantee

That the funds would last the day.

Yes, today the legal practice

Has been knocked back on track

Cuz whether you love or hate it

And whether you cry or celebrate it

Practicing just for the love of law

Is absolutely back.
