People passing the new Shallowford Hites development might do a double take when they see the name.
Is “Hites” a typo?
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga CEO Jens Christensen says it’s not.
The name is a tribute to the late Chattanooga Realtor Mark Hite, a longtime Habitat board member and active advocate for the organization who died unexpectedly on Jan. 1, 2024.
Hite was in his seventh year of service on Habitat’s board at the time of his death. His involvement went well beyond attending meetings. Habitat remembered him as a dedicated community servant who attended every home dedication and meeting and championed the organization’s work to provide affordable housing.
Hite also helped strengthen the connection between Chattanooga’s real estate community and Habitat. During his career, he supported Realtor volunteer efforts with the organization and helped introduce others to Habitat’s fundraising initiatives.
Christensen says the name Shallowford Hites is intended to honor Mark for everything he did for Habitat, ensuring his name remains connected to the organization and the community he served.
