Miss Nora Hall has returned to Cartersville, Ga., after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Luke Hall in North Chattanooga. Miss Hall was honored by Mrs. Thomas Edwards with a party Thursday.
Word has been received here of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Shofner of Bedford County. Mrs. Shofner is the former Miss Rachel Connor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Emory Connor of Chattanooga.
Miss Annie Grady entertained with a luncheon at her home on Lookout Mountain, Friday. Covers were laid for 16.

T.H. Payne Co. has a list of the newest books, including “Brewster’s Millions” by G.R. McCutcheon.
Mr. and Mrs. Gray Gentry and Misses Ethel and Hazel Sevier have moved to Walden’s Ridge.
Monday, Aug. 19
Sunday at 9 a.m. the new Missionary Ridge Sunday School Chapel was formally dedicated. It is located near Bragg’s Headquarters at the north end of the bridge. It is a monument to the men and women of the Ridge who have labored long and faithfully to have a home of their own. It is nondenominational and for years the morning services have been held in the county schoolhouse across the Crest Road from the present building. Dr. J.W. Bachman gave the dedicatory service. The program was in charge of Mrs. W.E. Love, Mrs. Sam Campbell, Mrs. W.D. Carswell, Mrs. Sam Erwin and G.E. McKenney. History of the Chapel’s beginning was given by Judson Buchanan, Sam Campbell, W.E. Carswell, George McKenney and W.P. McBroom. A vocal solo was given by George Freeman accompanied by McConnell Erwin.
Miss Pearl LeHardy and her grandfather, L. McCallie, have returned from a visit to relatives and friends in Georgia and Alabama. Miss Annie Tucker accompanied them home.
Tuesday, Aug. 20
Chattanooga theatre-goers have seen the last of the popular priced attractions at the Bijou and Lyric. Ben Kahn of New York has arrived to plan with Jake Wells of the Bijou to run Vaudeville shows opening Labor Day. The Lyric is booked with shows as “The Merry Widow,” “Naughty Marietta” “Alma Where Do You Live?” and stars as Maude Adams, Blanche Ring, Louis Mann, Julian Eltinge.
Miss Margie Hobson has returned from Nashville after a visit to her sister, Mrs. Hortense McDonald and Nola Hodge.
Miss Celeste Biden of Baltimore is the guest of Miss Ann Hampton in North Chattanooga.
The Hon. W.L. Frierson has been elected City Attorney to succeed the Hon. Nathan Bachman who was elected Circuit Court Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in the recent election by a big majority.
Wednesday, Aug. 21
The world’s best-known Evangelist, Gen. Wilkes Booth, Commander of the Salvation Army, died Tuesday night in London. His daughter, Miss Evangeline Booth, who was in New York City when she received word, suffered a nervous breakdown. Gen. Booth is survived by several children, all of whom are active in the Salvation Army work.
Bandmaster Morrison of the Chattanooga Municipal Band announced there will be concerts tonight in the East Lake Park and Boynton Park and one Friday at Fountain Square.
Mrs. G.M. Smartt and sons, Harold and Matt, left Tuesday for a stay at St. Simons Island.
Misses Sara and Gay Postlethwaite entertained in honor of Miss Eva Thompson of Gary, Ind., who is visiting Miss Chloe Thompson, and Miss Annie Ellis, a bride-elect.
Thursday, Aug. 22
Due to controversy in an Oklahoma school after reading of the Lord’s Prayer, their Attorney General Charles West has come to the conclusion that it is proper that public schools be permitted to read or recite the prayer in the schools saying, “I find nothing in it intolerant to the religious views of anyone.”
Warren Dewees, Jr., Cesna Sharp, Will Shpeherd and Dr. John Allen Gentry have returned from Tate Springs where they motored for a week’s stay.
Friday, Aug. 23
Roads, parks and streets are flooded and damaged by heavy rains and electrical storms early Friday morning. The flood of water at Jo Anderson’s corner, Live and Let Live Drug Store, Rosenthals, A&P Store, Miller Bros., and Woolworths did a great deal of damage.
It was the heaviest rain since 1892. All city sewer systems were inadequate to handle the three-inch rainfall.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cravens entertained at their home in Highland Park for Miss Ocy Schoff who leaves soon for New York to study music. Mrs. Cravens was assisted by Mrs. E.C. Clark and Miss Clyde Farrier.
