Mark Making photo exhibit

Through Friday, August 30

Mark Making is celebrating four years with Mark Making: More Than Art, a photo exhibition of selected projects, available for public viewing August 2 through August 30 at the Association for Visual Arts, located at 30 Frazier Avenue. Mark Making is a Chattanooga-based nonprofit that empowers individuals and transforms communities through professionally-led public art projects, with a focus on the underserved. Tupelo Honey Cafe job fair

Thursday, August 15-Monday, August 19

Tupelo Honey Cafe, which will open a new Chattanooga location next month, will host a job fair from Thursday, August 15 through Monday, August 19. Interviews will be held at La Quinta Inn, located at 100 West 21st Street. The Asheville-based restaurant will employ about 100 people at its Chattanooga location. The restaurant is hiring for a variety of positions, including culinary staff, servers, bartenders, and back-of-house team members. Interested applicants should visit www.tupelohoneycafe.com/careers to apply online prior to interviewing, and are encouraged to interview in person between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday, and between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Applications will also be accepted on-site at the job fair. The 5,500 square-foot restaurant will be located at the motor court entrance of Building North and will offer indoor and patio seating for up to 150 guests.

Chickamauga Battlefield Bicycle Tour

Saturday, August 17

Bring your bicycle to Chickamauga Battlefield for a guided interpretive tour on Saturday, August 17 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Battlefield Visitors Center. A National Park Service interpretive ranger will tell stories from the Battle of Chickamauga. Adults and kids ages 8 and older are welcome. Helmets are required for all riders. ScreamFree Parenting Seminar

Tuesday, August 20

First Things First will present the ScreamFree Parenting Seminar with author Hal Runkel at the Baylor School Chapel from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Runkel is regarded as an expert on family relationships. Parents will learn skills to help them focus on remaining calm while successfully getting through to their children. Hal and his message have been featured on thousands of media outlets including The Today Show, Redbook and Good Housekeeping. History Center’s 150th Anniversary Walking Tour

Wednesday, August 21

The Chattanooga History Center will present a walking tour marking the 150th anniversary of Wilder’s Bombardment of Chattanooga at 7 p.m. The walk will be led by CHC Executive Director and Historian, Dr. Daryl Black, and Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park Chief Historian, Jim Ogden. Participants will meet the guides on the Tennessee Aquarium Plaza in front of the Chattanooga History Center. The fee is five dollars per person. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by Tuesday, August 20. Call 423-265-3247 to register.

Citizens’ Police Academy

Beginning Thursday, September 5

Have you ever wanted to learn more about how the Chattanooga Police Department works?  To learn more about what the men and women, who patrol and protect our city, do on a daily basis?  If so, the Chattanooga Police Department’s Office of Community Outreach is once again holding its Citizens’ Police Academy. Beginning Thursday, September 5, the eight week course will give citizens a glimpse into how the Police Department does its job.  Instructors from the department teach each class one night a week, covering a variety of topics including narcotics, homicide investigation, patrol and the SWAT team. River Rocks becomes RoverRox

Wednesday, October 2-Sunday, October 13

The Chattanooga River Rocks Festival will change format for 2013, becoming the RiverRox Adventure Sports Games. The focus of the 11 day event will be land- and water-based competitions designed to attract top athletes. Included in the events are the Swim the Suck 10 Mile, Triple Crown Bouldering Comp, the Chattanooga Head Race and the Rock Creek Stump Jump.

Volunteer for Tennessee River Rescue

Saturday, October 5

It’s not too soon to think about volunteering to help with Chattanooga’s signature outdoor stewardship event, the TN River Rescue, happening Saturday, October 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Individuals, church groups, scouting troops and neighborhood associations can all register to help clean up a portion of the TN River watershed. This year’s goal is to have 25 work zones, encompassing Bradley, Hamilton and Marion counties. Chattanooga Theater Center 2013-2014 schedule

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre will mark the group’s 90th anniversary with a 2013-2014 season of favorites selected from the community theatre’s unbroken 90-year string of productions. The Secret Garden will play Sept. 6-22 in the Main Theatre; Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, a haunting comedy, will play Oct. 18-Nov. 3 in the Mildred M. Montague Circle Theatre; A Christmas Story: The Musical is slated for Dec. 6-22 in the Main Theatre; and Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple will be Jan. 24-Feb. 16, 2014 on the Circle Stage. Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew will play Feb. 28-March 16, 2014 in the Mildred M. Montague Circle Theatre; And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie will run March 21-April 6, 2014 in the Main Theatre; Pump Boys and Dinettes, a musical with Chattanooga roots, will play April 11-May 4, 2014 in the Mildred M. Montague Circle Theatre; Harper Lee’s drama To Kill A Mockingbird will play May 16-June 1 in the Main Theatre; Pippin will play June 6-July 5, 2014 in the Mildred M. Montague Circle Theatre; and Les Miserables, inspired by Victor Hugo’s novel, will run July 11-27, 2014 in the Main Theatre.
