The Chattanooga Police Department is the recipient of the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network’s Excellence in Crime Gun Intelligence award.
Chief Celeste Murphy received the award June 22 at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ headquarters in Washington, D.C. The recognition was part of the ATF’s second annual Chiefs of Police Executive Forum on Crime Guns Conference.
Formed in 2018, CPD’s Gun Team focuses on criminal gun investigations and intelligence and has been a key element in CPD’s efforts toward violent crime reduction, says the department in a news release.
“We’re an intelligence-led, data-driven department,” says Gun Team Sgt. Joshua May. “You don’t have to be struck by a bullet to feel the ramifications of gun violence, so the more we can lessen that, the better.”
