What’s a few more months after waiting 100 years to throw a party?
The city of East Ridge turned 100 years old in 2021, and after delays due to COVID-19 precautions, will finally host a belated birthday celebration this fall.
Taking place at Camp Jordan Park Saturday, Sept. 25, the event will include local bands, 5K, 10K and half-marathon races, local artists, crafts, homemade goods, food trucks, a local business showcase, a beer garden and yard games.
Local government officials and the East Ridge Centennial Committee originally planned to commemorate the city’s historic milestone in April. However, officials became hesitant due to health concerns and postponed the celebration.
The availability of COVID-19 vaccines and loosening restrictions encouraged officials to proceed.
Family-friendly activities will include inflatable slides and other attractions for children. Additionally, the City of East Ridge Library will host arts and crafts activities and story times for children.
The beer garden will feature five local breweries. Top Golf will host corn hole, giant Jenga, giant Connect Four, Skeeball, Dice and other yard games near the garden.
