Planting of the formal plaza in front of the new Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company building is to begin early in August, President R.L. Maclellan announced. Focal points of the formal arrangement are fountains, which flank the building entrance. Joseph R. Gangemi, New York landscape artist, is directing the planting.
Monday, August 1
Glen R. Kleinau Jr. has been named president and treasurer of the Chattanooga Venetian Blind Company, Inc., following his recent purchase of 50 percent of the corporation’s stock. He is now in complete control of the operation.
Wednesday, August 3
Estimates of the Hamilton County vote in Thursday’s election for local and state offices in 70 precincts range from 50,000 to 55,000. Hamilton County’s largest vote was 64,768 in the national election of 1956, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower defeated Adlai Stevenson a second time.
Thursday, August 4
Charles H. Berryman, head of the department of Mathematics and dean of Studies at Baylor School, has been promoted to associate headmaster.
