TPA honors Klug as pharmacy tech of the year

The Tennessee Pharmacists Association has recognized CHI Memorial pharmacy technician Hollie Klug as its 2023 Pharmacy Technician of the Year.

As the lead compliance pharmacy technician at CHI Memorial, Klug ensures CHI Memorial facilities are compliant with regulatory guidelines.

Klug’s work led her to create a system-wide site for compounding regulatory compliance documentation, developed training materials for sterile, non-sterile and hazardous compounding, and moving all compounding competency check-offs to an electronic format.

Pharmacy Leadership at CommonSpirit Health, CHI Memorial’s parent company, has recognized Klug’s work in these areas as a best practice.

Klug serves on two CHI Memorial system-level compounding committees, one of which she chairs. She also serves on advisory committees for the American Society for Health System Pharmacists and the National Pharmacy Technician Association.

In 2021, Klug became certified to administer and transport vaccines and participated in many vaccine clinics in the community.

In addition, Klug is a Chattanooga State pharmacy technician program advisory board member. She was the first technician at CHI Memorial to earn her Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and has earned more than 10 certifications overall.

Beyond serving her employer with her knowledge, Klug is a grant writer and emergency medical responder for the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department.
