John Cleghorn of Summerville, Ga., motored to Chattanooga this week for a visit with his sister, Mrs. John H. Pitner on Oak Street.
Misses Irene Wilson and Ruth Brown returned from Atlanta where they visited their sister, Mrs. G.E. Lynch.
Sunday, July 28
Work has been started on a modern building for the Grace Memorial Parish House at Kirby and Hickory Streets. Rev. Albert E. Selcer from Chicago is the new rector. He is fully qualified to serve in social and welfare work.
Miss Marguerite Chaffee has come from New York to visit her parents in Normal Park. She has been successful in the theatrical world and is a graduate of Emerson School of Expression in Boston.
Mrs. Barton Logan, who has been visiting in Charleston, W.Va., will return to spend the rest of the summer with Mrs. Newton Logan on Walden’s Ridge.
“Charley’s Aunt” will be presented at the Bijou Theater for the benefit of the Auxuiliary of the YMCA. Director is Bobby Strauss. Members of the cast: Tom Dewees, Knox Smartt, Raleigh Crumbliss, George Rule, Misses Eva D. Bachman, Loraine Mischler, Dorothea Snodgrass and Emily Wilson. Bobby Strauss will play the part of Charley’s Aunt.
Monday, July 29
Senator and Mrs. J.B. Frazier have taken the house of the John A. Pattens for the rest of the summer.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Richmond chaperoned the following group to Rock City for a picnic supper. Misses Grace Kalb, Louise Glover, Lucille Carter, Grace Glover, Maude Whiteside, Ruth Evans, Lavelette Sloan, Messrs. Walter Wells, Norman Raoul, Jesse Evans, Forrest Evans, Tom Whiteside, Charles Coffey, Ewing Carter and Carl Dugger.
Tuesday, July 30
Misses Adelaide and Sarah Cook are visiting Mrs. George Vincent at Fall Branch.
Miss Elise Chapin and guest, Miss Dabney of Texas, are visiting Miss Rosalind Russell on Lookout Mountain.
Five thousand people witnessed the opening of Warner Park. Music was furnished by the Municipal Band which proved sufficient entertainment. There were no speeches. A large number of children were present and all enjoyed the recreation facilities of the park.
Wednesday, July 31
The wedding of Police Chief F.W. Hill and Miss Louise Coller was solemnized at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Don Peglar, on Vance Avenue, Highland Park with Dr. T.S. McCallie officiating. The bride’s only attendant was little Ann Peglar as ring bearer. After an Eastern trip, the young couple will reside on Mabel Street.
Louise Morrison entertained informally in honor of Mrs. Benton White, a recent bride. Four tables of bridge were played. Following the game, a salad course was served.
Misses Alice and Ann Gibson and Miss Maude Rathmell will go to Walden’s Ridge for a visit to Miss Mabel Van Dusen.
Thursday, Aug. 1
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ferger, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Miller, Mrs. W.C. Sharon, Mrs. Ralph Marshall and Miss Leonora Miller are motoring through France along the Mediterranean coast and will leave their car at Nice when they go through Italy to Switzerland.
Miss Margaret Thomas of Bramwell, W.Va., will come soon to be the guest of Mrs. Z.C. Patten, Sr., and Mrs. Marion Hope.
Miss Mildred McGhee entertained with a spend-the-day party for the Misses Joe Pittman and Mattie Adams of Cedartown, Ga. Invited were Misses Elizabeth Shelton, Willie Rowland, Mary Fred Willingham, Ethel Johnson, Ethel Mae McClellan, Augusta Cleage, Mrs. Nobel Simmons and Mrs. Fred Peay.
Friday, Aug. 2
Miss Victoria and Carlton Wright have returned from Soddy where they visited their grandmother, Mrs. A. Lloyd, at her summer home “Mount Pleasant.”
Mrs. Gray Gentry is in Kingston where she was called by the illness of her sister, Miss Ethel Sevier, who was spending the summer in their old home.
