Top storylines as Titans open camp

Training camp opened Wednesday for the Tennessee Titans, and it will be interesting to see how a number of things unfold.

Here are the four biggest storylines as the Titans go through training camp and preseason.

Levis and the new offense

All eyes will be on the development of quarterback Will Levis and how he acclimates to Brian Callahan’s offense and the new weapons around him.

Callahan has lauded Levis as very coachable and a quarterback who wants to prove himself as a franchise player. Arming him with receivers like Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd to go with DeAndre Hopkins should certainly make for a more wide-open and interesting offense than what Titans fans have been used to over the years.

Fixing the offensive line

Beyond that, the Titans need Bill Callahan to figure out the offensive line situation as quickly as possible. The left side of the line from center Lloyd Cushenberry out to left guard Peter Skoronski and 2024 first-round pick JC Latham of Alabama appear set and just need the cohesion that comes from working together.

The right side of the line is a different story altogether. It appears to be a free-for-all at both guard and tackle, as Saahdiq Charles, Daniel Brunskill and Dillon Radunz are all in the mix to start at guard. Likewise, Nicholas Petit-Frere, John Ojukwu, Leroy Watson, Jaelyn Duncan and Geron Christian, signed after the offseason work all figure to get a look.

An aggressive defense

Dennard Wilson, the Titans new defensive coordinator, makes no secret that his defense will be in attack mode. The additions of cornerbacks L’Jarius Sneed, Chidobe Awuzie and safety Jamal Adams are in that vein of aggressiveness that Wilson preaches about.

Much will be predicated on how much pressure the Titans can get on the quarterback. Aside from Jeffery Simmons, the defensive line does not appear as strong as it was last year, and there are questions at inside linebacker where Jack Gibbens and rookie Cedric Gray vie to start opposite newcomer Kenneth Murray.

Special teams shuffling

With Ryan Stonehouse still recovering from a knee injury, it will be interesting to see how the strong-legged punter does when he returns. That might not be during camp, though, and the Titans may have to wait.

While Nick Folk is entrenched as kicker, the Titans will have to look at options in the return game. Rookie Jha’Quan Jackson will get a look on punt returns, while Kyle Philips and Eric Garror are holdover options.

The new kickoff rule will be interesting to watch, not only with the Titans, but around the league. Don’t be surprised if someone like Treylon Burks is tried back there in that role.
