Bike Chattanooga is preparing to celebrate a decade of making bike sharing available to residents and visitors in Chattanooga.
To mark 10 years of service, Bike Chattanooga will offer unlimited free 60-minute station-to-station trips for 24 hours Thursday, July 28.
Riders will be able to redeem their free pass at a station kiosk or through the Transit or PBSC app. Overage fees will apply for trips longer than 60 minutes.
Bike Chattanooga will also host a free community event on Broad Street and Aquarium Way from 6:30-9 p.m. Activities will include music, food and drinks.
Outdoor Chattanooga will lead a group ride at 7 p.m. Bike Chattanooga is encouraging riders to dress in neon and tie-dye clothing. Prizes will be awarded.
Bike Chattanooga launched in 2012 with 30 stations and 300 bikes. The system’s footprint has grown to 42 stations and 400 bikes, including 55 e-bikes.
Bike Chattanooga added e-bikes to its fleet in 2018. Customers use the bikes up to four times more than pedal bikes.
From 2018 through 2021, Bike Chattanooga has seen an 83% increase in ridership and 79% growth in annual members.
Bike Chattanooga also sold more than 24,000 short-term passes in 2021, indicating growing popularity with visitors and casual users.
To meet increasing demand, Bike Chattanooga plans to adds 50 new e-bikes and another e-station to the system in the coming months, thanks to funding from the Lyndhurst Foundation and City of Chattanooga.
