The City of Chattanooga has released an interactive map to help residents and visitors easily locate City Parks and amenities such as playgrounds, pavilions, restrooms, sports fields, and boat launches. In order to provide a more efficient and useful experience in locating public spaces, the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Parks Divisions in the Department of Public Works did a full revamp of the former outdated mapping app.
The new Park Locator Map is organized around four functions: searching by address or activity; saving locations and parks to a list; finding current location and proximity to public spaces; and sharing places through Facebook, Twitter, and email.
By organizing the new map around activities and locations, users can more effortlessly find parks near their house or workplace or any address. For example, looking for the closest park with a playground, a user would select “playground” in the activity search feature and get a list of parks with playgrounds in order of distance from their current location.
The new map increases the ability of residents and visitors to access the City of Chattanooga’s network of public parks, playgrounds, walking paths, and leisure facilities, including 4,800 acres of park space and 35 miles of greenways and trails. More than 80 parks offer a variety of passive and active recreation as well as tennis and basketball courts, walking and biking trails, ball fields, dog parks, disc golf courses, and boat launches.
