Fresh on Fridays

Fresh On Fridays offers fresh made fare from local restaurants, food trucks, artisans and farmers. Participants include Southern Burger Company, Famous Nater’s World Famous, Link 41 Sausage, Pure Soda Works, Monkey Town Donut Company, Ello Ello, Legends Cookies, Taste of Argentina, Taco Sherpa, Herr Flowers and Flat Top Mountain Produce. At Miller Plaza, located downtown across the street from The Volunteer Building, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

July 20

Nightfall Welcomes Chuck Prophet

American singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Chuck Prophet will perform at Nightfall, a series of free concerts held at Miller Plaza each Friday night during the summer months. A Californian, Prophet first achieved notice in the American psychedelic rock group Green on Red, with whom he toured and recorded in the 1980s. He’s also recorded a number of solo records. Beginning at 8 p.m.

July 21

Chickamauga Battlefield Bicycle Tour

Outdoor Chattanooga will host a free bicycle tour of Chickamauga Battlefield beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Battlefield Visitors Center. Adults and kids ages 8 and older are invited to take a leisurely two-hour ride around the battlefield with a National Park interpretive ranger to learn about Civil War history. Bring your own bicycle or borrow one from Outdoor Chattanooga. To reserve a loaner bike, call the Battlefield Visitors Center at 706-866-9241. Helmets are required for all riders.

Chattanooga River Market at the Tennessee Aquarium Plaza

The Chattanooga River Market is held each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Ross’s Landing in the Tennessee Aquarium Plaza. This new market includes live music, produce and artistic vendors.

July 22

Beginner Women’s Mountain Bike Clinic

Cyclist Beth Miller will host the second in her series of beginner mountain bike clinics for women at 2 p.m. at Harrison Bay State Park. Miller will instruct the class on shifting, braking, climbing and descending on the state park’s beginner friendly trail. Participants must have a mountain bicycle, a helmet and appropriate footwear. Bring enough water and snacks to keep going for a two-hour ride. A folding chair and towel are also recommended. Email Miller at bikinbeth@gmail.com by July 20 to attend.

Peace, Brother

Regional Peace Corps recruiter Toby Rowell will be at the Downtown Chattanooga Public Library from 6-7:30 p.m. to facilitate a Peace Corps information session. Chattanooga area residents are encouraged to attend this event to hear about Toby’s volunteer experience in Zambia, East Africa, to receive tips about the application process and to learn more about the Peace Corps’ opportunities and benefits. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Currently, 11 Chattanooga residents are serving in the Peace Corps. More than 2,100 Tennessee residents have served in the Peace Corps since 1961.

Audubon Acres Owl Prowl

The Chattanooga Audubon Society will host a special owl prowl at Audubon Acres from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Participants will receive a short review of common owl calls, followed by a night time walk on the Audubon Acres trails to listen for birds. Email ksimpson@chaas.org to register.

Hunter Museum of American Art’s second All American Summer Free Sunday features bluesman Ed Huey on the terrace from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Free to all.
