In one 24-hour period in June, at least five people in the Hamilton County area suffered an overdose, pushing the number of overdose calls to the Chattanooga Police Department this year to more than 150.
Since then, the Hamilton County Coalition has given more than 300 people overdose reversal training centered on the medication naloxone.
Out of the total number of people trained, 275 units of naloxone were distributed to the public to people who passed the training.
The HCC has hosted 20 training sessions throughout Hamilton County since the overdose spike in June 2018 as part of its Rapid Response Initiative.
HCC is still offering training in opioid overdose reversal. The coalition will host sessions on the third Tuesday of every month at its office at 5721 Marlin Road (building 6100, suite 3200).
Participants learn how to identify the signs of an overdose and what to do in critical moments, HCC will also cover alternative pain management and treatment and recovery resources.
Attendees will also receive training on how to use naloxone – the life-saving narcotic overdose reversal medicine. A unit of naloxone will also be made available upon completion of the training.
