Progress is moving forward on a mixed-use project on King Street in Southside Chattanooga that will include two restaurants, a brewery, office space, condos, a park and a hotel.
Urban Story Ventures is leading the project alongside 3H Hotels, which is building the Moxy Hotel at the corner of Market and King Streets.
The new area, called King Street Station, will feature a private park with a beer garden attached to Wanderlinger Brewery.
The building that’s under renovation was constructed in 1913 for cold storage and is undergoing a complete restoration, including the addition of more than 80 new windows. The structure contained only a few openings before.
Restaurants and office space will anchor the lower floors while residences are planned for the top.
“It was important to us to preserve this historic structure while breathing life back into it and updating the site for a variety of uses,” says Jimmy White, owner of Urban Story Ventures. “The result is a place for people to live, work and play in in Southside Chattanooga.”
Designated onsite parking will be available for residents, tenants, customers and guests. King Street Station is located at the edge of an emerging entertainment district and Chattanooga’s Southside and borders the city’s central business district.
A rail line runs through the property. Urban Story Ventures is using space on and around the tracks to create a 300-foot-long park.
“People who want to live and work in an urban setting also want access to gathering places like parks,” White adds. “Turning the area around the railroad into a park is a great reuse of this space, which will also be a draw for people staying at the Moxy Hotel or visiting the brewery.
“We also think it will complement the other activities in the area.”
The restaurants, brewery and office space building at King Street Station is set to open late fall, with some tenants opening in early winter. The Moxy Hotel is slated to open in October.
