Deer Tick to perform at Nightfall
Deer Tick’s music has been described as a combination of folk, blues and country. Hailing from Providence, R.I., Deer Tick is on tour to promote their latest album, “Divine Providence.” Opening act Behold the Brave will perform at 7 p.m. The Nightfall Concert Series consists of FREE shows held each Friday night for 16 weeks at Miller Plaza.

POV Summer Film Series continues
The Chattanooga Film Society and Mise En Scenesters, as part of their POV Summer Film Series, will screen the documentary, “I’m Carolyn Parker: The Good, the Mad and the Beautiful,” at the Downtown Chattanooga YMCA at 6:30 p.m. The screening is free. The documentary by Academy Award-winning Director Jonathan Demme (“Silence of the Lambs”) tells the story of Carolyn Parker, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, who is fighting for the right to rebuild her home and community after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The documentary is a vibrant character study of a courageous and resilient civil rights activist and caring mom.

City Councilperson Berz to speak at Noon Nosh Luncheon
City Councilperson Dr. Carol Berz will speak at the Noon Nosh Luncheon at the Jewish Cultural Center, located at 5461 North Terrace Road. Dr. Berz’s topic will be the redevelopment of the Brainerd area. RSVP by July 15 to rsvp@jewishchattanooga.com.
The Brainerd Redevelopment Plan was approved by the Planning Commission in December 2010 and includes the creation of a Brainerd Mission Center at the site of the old Brainerd Mission at Eastgate. The plan also calls for revitalizing Brainerd Village Shopping Center and recommends a more visible trailhead for the Brainerd Levee walking trail.

Ultimate Hike information meeting
Attend a free information meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga in Coolidge Park to learn about the Ultimate Hike, a 28-mile trek to benefit pediatric cancer research. The Ultimate Hike will take place October 13. Hikers will pledge to raise money for CureSearch for Children’s Cancer. In return, they will get training and full support for the 28.3 mile hike on the Foothills Trail in Western S.C. and N.C.

Gaining Ground cooking demon
A Gaining Ground-sponsored cooking demonstration will take place at Main Street Farmers Market from 4-6 p.m. Gaining Ground recently released the summer edition of its seasonal cookbook, “Eat Up: A Celebration of Life and Local Food in Chattanooga.” The newest edition in the series of four cookbooks focuses on simple summer recipes from local farmer and Chef Ann Keener. The “Eat Up” cookbook series is free and is available at area farmers’ markets. Main Street Farmers Market is located at 325 East Main Street.
