Attorney David Mittelstadt recently formed The Mittelstadt Law Firm LLC, a Chattanooga area-based national practice focusing primarily on transactional business tax issues and other legal services relevant to business clients.
Mittelstadt, who served as the 2018-19 chair of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Tax Section, and who remains on the section’s executive committee, brings more than 35 years of transactional tax experience to his new firm.
He previously worked as a tax attorney in major national firms including Shearman & Sterling and Fish & Richardson, and spent more than seven years as the in-house U.S. tax counsel for the Canadian-controlled Thomson Corporation (now Thomson Reuters).
Mittelstadt’s practice has spanned from representation on very large international transactions to representation of small, local and startup businesses. Practice areas include: mergers and acquisitions; dispositions; corporate financial structuring; general corporate, LLC and partnership tax planning; and the U.S. tax aspects of international transactions.
“Eastern Tennessee is business-friendly, and there are ample opportunities for businesses of any kind – including those in the legal industry – to thrive in the Chattanooga area,” Mittelstadt says.
The Mittelstadt Law Firm’s initial office will be located in Rossville, Georgia. Mittelstadt plans to open a Chattanooga office soon.
Mittelstadt will represent clients from the region as well as around the nation. He’s licensed to practice in Tennessee as well as in Georgia, New York and Massachusetts and is a member of the Chattanooga Bar Association and the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, one of England’s four Inns of Court.
