Madison Hayes, 12, of Ooltewah, Tenn., will be competing in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run National Competition in Minneapolis, Minn., on Monday, July 14. On June 15 at Turner Field in Atlanta, Hayes won first place in the Girls 11- and 12 year-old division PHR Team Championship. The competition will take place at Target Field prior to the Gatorade All-Star Workout Day.
Hayes began playing softball more than seven years ago in the Red Bank Youth Association and for its summer tournament teams. She is a rising 7th grader at East Hamilton Middle-High School.
PHR participants advance through four levels of competition, beginning at the local level, which is hosted by organizations, leagues, or volunteers within a community, and continuing through sectional and team competitions. All 30 MLB Clubs hosted team championships at their ballparks on weekends from May 31 through June 29. The top three competitors nationwide from each age group (7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14) advanced to the 2014 Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run program.
The 2014 MLB All-Star Game will be played at Target Field on Tuesday, July 15.
