In the mood for alternative neo-Celtic folk?
Four Shillings Short will perform traditional Irish tunes and airs, Indian ragas, folk ballads, medieval and renaissance instrumentals and acappella numbers as well as contemporary folk and original compositions at the downtown branch of the Chattanooga Public Library from 2 to 3 p.m. Their sound has been described as “wondrously diverse,” “truly refreshing” and “alternative neo-Celtic folk of the first order.”

Racquets on the Riverwalk
Manker Patten Tennis Club invites the public to the Tennessee Valley Open Championship tennis tournament to watch U.S. Open-style competition for free. Ride your bicycle to Riverbend
Outdoor Chattanooga and Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga will offer free valet bicycle parking at the south end of the Walnut Street Bridge on the first and second weekend of Riverbend, June 8-10 and 15-16, from 6 to 11 p.m. Bicycle valet patrons also get their own porta-john and free cold water. No reservations required.

Splash into Spring paddle sports festival
Outdoor Chattanooga will host Splash into Spring, their annual paddle sports festival and demo event, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at TVA Chickamauga Dam. The public is invited to learn about kayaking, canoeing, standup paddle boarding, dragon boating and sailing. The event is free and open to the public. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will host its annual Free Fishing Day on this day. Anyone may fish on public waters without a license.

Moccasin Bend Bicycle Tour
Outdoor Chattanooga and the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host the last historic bike tour of Moccasin Bend of the season beginning at 6 p.m. Participants will learn about the area’s history while enjoying a leisurely six-mile bike ride. The free tour is open to adults and children 16 and older who are accompanied by an adult. Participants are welcome to bring their own bicycles or reserve one from Outdoor Chattanooga. Jewish film series
Jewish-themed films produced in Germany, Argentina, Israel and the U.S. will be shown Wednesdays evenings at 7 p.m. through June 20 at the Jewish Cultural Center, located at 5461 North Terrace Road. The films are suitable for those 16 and older. Tickets are $5 per person and include popcorn. Soft drinks are available for purchase. The schedule is as follows: June 13 – “Anita”; and June 20 – “David.”

Patriotic Organ Concert
American organist Tom Trenney will be the featured performer at the Chattanooga Music Club’s annual Patriotic Organ Concert. He will play the Auditorium’s 1924 Austin Pipe Organ. Trenney has extensive mastery of organ technique, is a superior improviser and is known for his unique accompaniments to silent films. As part of his program, he will accompany two silent films – “One Week” starring Buster Keaton and “Big Business” starring Laurel & Hardy. Trumpeter Zachery Schmidt and drummer DeJuan Hogans will join Trenney, who will also play during the patriotic salute to veterans and military personnel. Admission is free. Donations are welcome.
