Brainbuster - Make Your Brain Tingle

Have you seen the new game show on TV called “500 Questions?” It’s not that easy for some of us. However, I do know of some that would be able to walk away with all the money. I know – it’s just not fair, is it?

If you’ve thought of appearing on the show, or perhaps on “Jeopardy,” here’s a puzzle that might get you somewhat prepared.

1. How many days does an eyelash live before it falls out? 90 days; 150 days; 60 days; 180 days.

2. How wide is the mouth on the Statue of Liberty? Two feet; Two and a half feet; three feet; three and a half feet.

3. In 1859, 26 dentists met in what city in New York to start the ADA? Cheektowaga; Niagara Falls; Buffalo; New York.

4. According to the ADA, approximately how many athletes avoid dental tragedy on an annual basis by wearing a mouthpiece? 150,000; 200,000; 250,000; 300,000.

5. Which gas station declared “You can trust your car to the man who wears the star!” Conoco; Havoline; Site; Texaco.

6. Approximately how many grapes go into a bottle of wine? 150; 177; 189; 203.

7. On “Leave It to Beaver,” in what town did “the Beave” live? Los Angeles; Mayberry; Mayfield; Fairview.

8. According to some, what was the aftershave Elvis Presley liked the most? Brut; Aqua Velva; Jade East; English Leather.

9. Conducted through the state of Georgia in 1864, who lead the “March to the Sea?” Sherman; Jackson; MacArthur; Custer.

10. Lindsey Vonn announced her split from which major sports star in May of 2015? Michael Jordan; Brett Favre; Usain Bolt; Tiger Woods.

ANSWERS:

 1. Actually, anywhere from one to five will drop out each day. At three months, an eyelash’s growth cycle, which is much shorter than the hair on your head, will fall out, which is one reason why they don’t grow very long. 2. Three feet. Did you know? Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi placed his statue on a federally owned island called “Bedloe’s” in New York Harbor. His original concept was to place a statue of a woman at the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. 3. The ADA was founded August 1859 at Niagara Falls, N.Y., by 26 dentists in the United States. 4. 200,000. Another interesting fact: It seems children have the right idea about smiling - they smile about 400 times a day! Women smile about 62 times a day compared to men, who smile eight times a day on average. 5. The symbol for Texaco was a large red star, inside a circle, with a green T on the star and the word “Texaco” across the upper one third of the circle. This same star was on a patch on the attendants’ uniforms. This ad campaign is credited to Benton & Bowles in the 1940s. 6. A study referenced approximately 177 grapes [of average size], or 2.5 pounds to make a bottle of wine. 7. “Leave It to Beaver” is set in the fictitious community of Mayfield. The Cleavers lived in two houses over the series’ run: The address of the first house was 485 Mapleton (sometimes Maple) Drive, and the second was 211 Pine Street. “Leave It to Beaver” was one of the first primetime sitcom series written from a child’s point of view. Like several television dramas and sitcoms of the late 1950s and early 1960s, “Leave It to Beaver” was a glimpse at middle-class, American boyhood. In a typical episode, Beaver got into some sort of trouble, then faced his parents for reprimand and correction. 8. Brut. 9. Sherman. The march ended with the capture of the port of Savannah on December 21. 10. Tiger Woods, winner of four World Cup championships. Lindsey is an American World Cup alpine ski racer.
