Nickels for Nepal, Chattanooga Nepali Community members, and Gamma Chapter Kappa Kappa Iota members held a Benefit Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s Northgate last Saturday. They raised over $2,400 to provide emergency relief supplies to the schools, school children, and their families in the remote villages in Nepal that were severely damaged by the recent earthquakes.
Nawaraj Baskota, Principal of Kavya School, New Baneshwor, is the Nickels for Nepal coordinator in Nepal. Chris Hockert, founder and chairman of the board of Nickels for Nepal, sent a total of $4,000 to Nawaraj’s non-profit organization to obtain the necessary supplies locally and arrange delivery of them to the remote villages severely impacted by the earthquakes. The Gorkha and Nuwkot districts will be two of the areas to receive funds.
Nickels for Nepal is a 501c3 non-profit organization established in 2009 by teachers from Chattanooga, Tenn., to raise funds to obtain school supplies, uniforms, curriculum materials, and facility support for remote village schools in Nepal.
