Saturday, June 4
Joseph A. Roddy, prominent Chattanooga tax attorney, boating enthusiast, leader in the water safety program in the Chattanooga and president of the Chattanooga Safety Council, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday afternoon.
Sunday, June 5
Paul J. Viall Jr. was elected president of the Chattanooga Symphony for the 1960-61 season, succeeding Mrs. Ben Hale Golden, president for the past two seasons, who was named vice president at a luncheon meeting of the board Friday at the Town and Country Restaurant.
Monday, June 6
The McCallie Avenue tunnels carry the heaviest traffic of any Chattanooga thoroughfare, with an average of 33,760 vehicles passing through the tubes in a 24-hour period.
Tuesday, June 7
Chattanooga school authorities Tuesday asked U.S. District Judge Leslie R. Darr to give them “necessary time in which to educate, reconcile and bring about acceptance of a plan of desegregation for the schools.” The plea is in their answer to the suit asking for integration of the city schools.
