Every eight seconds, a cardiac event occurs in the U.S., but only 8% of the nation’s population is trained in CPR.
To help educate and train local students about CPR, Unum donated 40 Hands-Only CPR kits to Hamilton County Schools through a partnership with the American Heart Association.
Red Bank High School, Brainerd High Schools, East Hamilton High School and Howard High School each received 10 Hands-Only CPR kits to equip students.
Each year, nearly 424,000 people have sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital and only 10.4% of these victims survive.
A victim’s survival rate is doubled – and at times tripled – when a CPR-trained bystander is near and able to offer aid until first responders arrive.
Hands-Only CPR kits include a lifelike mannequin, a bilingual instructional DVD and written instructions and accessories for multiple students.
