From June 6 through June 14, 2014, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Department of Corrections, in coordination with the Friends of the Festival and the Chattanooga Police Department, conducted a compliance check for sex offenders at the Riverbend venue.
Tennessee law prohibits convicted sex offenders from attending functions located within a park. Under TCA 40-39-211, sex offenders are not allowed to be on, or stop, park, or stand on, the property of a school, daycare, or park, or be within 1,000 feet of these areas. Riverbend takes place within River Park; thus, sex offenders were prohibited from attending.
The combined effort of the agencies involved resulted in the arrest of four offenders located in the venue, with warrants being obtained on two additional offenders for a total of six arrests made.
