The Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater will be screening “Wild Africa 3D” Saturday, June 24 through Sunday, June 26. This new giant screen film,  produced by BBC Earth, takes viewers across snow-covered mountains, over great rivers and steamy rainforests, and through wide-open savannahs, revealing the striking contrasts that exist in one of the wildest places on Earth.

Animals featured include elephants searching for water in the Great Rift Valley, crocodiles waiting at water holes for the annual wildebeest migration on the savannahs of the Serengeti, and mountain gorillas in the forests of Rwanda.

The movie also chases the great rains of the African summer storms that annually bring life to the continent. “We live in one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet because of the geology and climate of the watersheds across the Southeast,” said Dr. Anna George, director of the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute. “This film affords us an opportunity to view how fresh water, moving from the mountains to the sea, has shaped the ecological communities on another continent.”

“Our aim with ‘Wild Africa’ was to capture the most ambitious 3D wildlife footage ever filmed for the giant screen,” said co-director and producer Neil Nightingale. “To achieve this, we had to design and build bespoke 3D rigs for almost every situation, and assemble a unique mix of talent so we could film in the toughest wild locations using a range of photographic techniques.”

The “Wild Africa 3D” crew captured footage in 30 locations, transporting tons of camera equipment across 13 countries over the course of nearly two years.

“Wild Africa 3D” will screen at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater at 4, 6, and 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4 and 6 p.m. on Sunday. Purchase tickets online at www.tnaqua.org/plan-your-visit/ticket-information.
