Emerson Russell acquires U. S. Cavalry, expands in Chattanooga

Emerson Russell Management Corporation (ERMC) recently acquired U.S. Cavalry, an outfitter for military, law enforcement, fire and rescue, transportation and security markets. The company plans to expand by investing $3.7 million and creating 55 permanent, fulltime jobs in Chattanooga.

“With U.S. Cavalry’s customers spread across the globe, from U.S. soldiers serving in Afghanistan to police officers in California, Chattanooga is a great central location with a superior transportation network,” said Emerson Russell, president and CEO of ERMC.

ERMC’s expansion plans in Chattanooga include the relocation of U. S. Cavalry’s operations.

“The decision to expand U.S. Cavalry here in Chattanooga strengthens the Alton Park neighborhood, creating opportunity for the surrounding community as well as the city as a whole,” said Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke. “Today’s announced expansion speaks to Chattanooga’s exceptional workforce and central location which provides strategic access to the broader marketplace.”

ERMC has purchased the former Big Horn Saddles building in Alton Park, which will house the headquarters of U.S. Cavalry. U.S. Cavalry recently applied for HUBZone (Historically Underserved Business Zone) designation from the U.S. Small Business Administration for its Alton Park location, where 90 percent of employees also live in the surrounding area included in the HUBZone. Businesses receive HUBZone status for locating to an underserved area and employing low income residents.

“ERMC acts as a good neighbor by choosing to expand U.S. Cavalry in a sometimes overlooked area of our community,” said Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger. “I’m excited about the opportunities this will create.”

“ERMC has been an important community partner and an important part of our local economy,” said Charles Wood, vice president of economic development at the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce. “Their expansion of U.S. Cavalry in Chattanooga advances our city by adding a new headquarters operation while creating new jobs.”
