Anyone who drives regularly through the ridge cut on I-24 is familiar with Kings Lodge, the budget motel that stood on the side of Missionary Ridge since 1970. Built just three years after that portion of the interstate was completed, Kings Lodge was once an iconic place for Chattanooga visitors to stay and enjoy the views of downtown and the mountains.
In recent years, however, it fell into disrepair and became notorious for police raids for drugs and other illegal activity.
“This extended-stay motel had turned into a makeshift, rundown apartment complex,” says Heather Everett, property manager for ViaNova Development. “It was ready to be condemned. It was sitting on a terrific location, though, and we saw it as an opportunity for some great downtown housing.”
ViaNova purchased the property and has been transforming it into a modern apartment complex. The first phase is complete, and one-bedroom, one-bath apartments are available for rent.
“We’re all about the view, and every apartment features a mesmerizing view of downtown, Lookout Mountain and Signal Mountain,” Everett says. “It’s beautiful all day, but it’s breathtaking at sunset.”
The View at Mission Ridge is just minutes from both downtown and Hamilton Place Mall.
“The rent is affordable for young professionals and students, and it’s close to major employers and schools without being right in the middle of the traffic,” Everett notes.
The View at Mission Ridge was completely rebuilt, and each apartment now offers vinyl wood floors, stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets and private patios or decks. Pets are allowed, and rent includes water and other monthly services.
The apartments are also equipped with high-speed internet and smart laundry facilities.
Within the next 12 months, an outdoor pool and clubhouse will open on the property as well as a fitness facility.
