The Chattanooga Film Festival will screen the new 4K restoration of “Monterey Pop,” a rockumentary about the first and only Monterey International Pop Festival, the weekend of June 16.
Monterey launched the careers of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Otis Redding, who were just a few among a wildly diverse cast that included Simon and Garfunkel, the Mamas and the Papas, the Who, the Byrds, Hugh Masekela and Ravi Shankar.
Documentary filmmaker D. A. Pennebaker captured it all, immortalizing moments that have become legend – Pete Townshend destroying his guitar, Jimi Hendrix burning his and more.
Before the Monterey Pop screening, cinephiles will be treated to a documentary short about legendary guitarist Dick Dale, made by students at the STEM School in conjunction with Songbirds Guitar Museum.
Multiple screenings will be held from Friday, June 16 through Sunday, June 18 at the Palace Picture House, 818 Georgia Ave. Tickets are $10, and proceeds will benefit the fifth annual Chattanooga Film Festival, to be held in April 2018.
