I Swear...
“Deep Docket Blues” – Medley
Vic Fleming
Call those cases, call some more,
People seeking justice at the courthouse door,
And I’ve got those deep docket blues.
Let that gavel rise and fall,
Line those lawyers up against the wall;
I’ve got those deep docket blues.
In my little court I’m a real good sport,
I hear excuses of every sort,
When I get those deep docket blues.
Witnesses, no end in sight!
Everybody claims that their side is right,
And I get those deep docket blues.
So, give me one reason to rule now,
And I’ll bring my gavel down.
Give me reason to rule now,
And I’ll bring my gavel down.
This case goes on forever,
I’m gonna turn my robe around.
I heard too much testimony
And I can’t make up my mind.
I heard too much that was phony,
And I can’t make up my mind.
When I hear this much baloney,
Justice is deaf as well as blind.
That’s how judges get confused.
Intellectually abused.
Everyday we gotta choose
Who gets to win and who has to lose,
That’s how judges get confused.
I had a case just the other day (true story!)
I know I heard a young man say,
“I want to thrown my mercy on the court.”
I said, “Throw a lot, we’re a little bit short.”
That’s how judges get confused.
So, call those cases, call some more,
People seeking justice at the courthouse door,
And I’ve got those deep docket blues.
Witnesses, no end in sight!
Everybody claims that their side is right,
And I get those deep docket blues.
[Tunes are “Deep River Blues,” “Give Me One Reason” and “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.”]
