Townsend Atelier will host “Figuring it Out,” an exhibition and sale of figurative works, on Friday, May 4 from 5:30-9 p.m. at The Arts Building, located at 301 E. 11th St. The event is open to the public free of charge. The exhibit features works created by over 25 local artists who have attended Townsend Atelier’s open figure drawing studios. Works available for purchase include paintings, pastels, drawings and sculptures. The exhibit will be on view through May 31.
It’s Latin Festival time
Chattanooga State’s International Community Outreach Office will host its fourth annual Latin Festival and Latino-American Soccer Cup 2018 on May 5 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Highland Park Commons, 2000 Union Ave. The event will feature live music and dancing and authentic food, costumes and artwork.
John Scales book signing

Rise and Shine
Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts will host a weekend of events supporting arts in education May 5-6. Damon Gillespie, star of the TV show “Rise” on NBC and a CCA alum, will travel to Chattanooga to teach a public master dance class, meet and greet fans at a VIP breakfast and speak at a student talent showcase at the school. Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run of Southeast Tennessee will host its 5K event on Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. at Tennessee River Park Shelter No. 4, located at 4301 Amnicola Hwy. Girls on the Run is a youth development program for girls in third through eighth grade. Participation in the 5K event is open to the public. All proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run of Southeast Tennessee, which serves the Cleveland and Chattanooga areas. Register
ETC celebrates partnership with Hunter Museum
ETC has partnered with Hunter Museum for a night of short plays inspired by six works of art. Featuring the works of five local playwrights, the stories range from a comedic look at creation to a dystopian commentary on societal structures. Each playwright was asked to keep families in mind while writing their plays. The short plays will be performed on Thursday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at Hunter Museum. The performance will take viewers on a guided trip through the museum, stopping and performing each play in front of the piece that served as its inspiration. Information: 423 987-5141
