Newsmakers: La Paz promotes Lozano to chief operating officer




La Paz Chattanooga has promoted Vivian Lozano from director of social impact to chief operating officer.

Lozano joined La Paz in 2012 as a client services coordinator and has held numerous roles within the organization since that time. The COO role is new to the organization.

Responsibilities include providing administrative support, overseeing partnerships and new initiatives and supervising case managers. Lozano will also foster the community, philanthropic and corporate partnerships essential for La Paz’s growth and sustainability.

Reflection Riding adds director of development

Chattanooga nonprofit veteran Susan Day has joined Reflection Riding Nature Center as director of development. Day most recently served as the development manager for the Hunter Museum of American Art.

Day honed her expertise in event management at the Chattanooga Convention Center. She then transitioned to the role of director of annual fund and special events at Hospice of Chattanooga.

Day’s community work includes serving as the vice-chair and treasurer for the Southeast Tennessee Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has also lent her expertise to various event committees, including Erlanger’s Believe Bash, AFP’s National Philanthropy Day and Lookout Mountain Conservancy’s St. Elmo Trail Preservation Fundraiser.

Day is also a member of the 2024 cohort of Leadership Chattanooga.

Shives selected named to lead Morning Pointe

Morning Pointe has named Ian Shives as the new senior executive director of its East Hamilton Assisted Living and Memory Care facility.

Shives will oversee day-to-day operations, collaborate with directors, nurses, nursing assistants and other support staff, and assist with training, mentoring and developing Morning Pointe associates.

Previously the executive director at Morning Pointe of Collegedale at Greenbriar Cove Assisted Living, Shives has been with Morning Pointe Senior Living for three-and-a-half years.

Shives earned his degree in social work from Southern Adventist University in 2010 and started his career in senior living as a director of social services for Life Care Centers of America. He then went on to work as a director of operations and vice president of operations for two other senior living companies in Colorado, Kansas and Kentucky.

Shives was born in Okinawa, Japan, while his father was stationed overseas with the U.S. Marine Corps. He grew up in Pensacola, Florida, and currently resides in McDonald with his wife and their two daughters.

SoundCorps names Susman executive director

The SoundCorps board of directors has appointed Jonathan Susman as the new executive director for the local nonprofit music organization.

Susman previously spearheaded arts and entertainment initiatives for the city of Chattanooga.

Under Susman’s leadership, SoundCorps aims to expand its programming, forge new partnerships and expand the impact of Chattanooga’s music scene on a regional and national scale.
