The Photographic Society of Chattanooga will host a summer season reception at the Gallery at Blackwell on Friday, May 19, 6:30-8:30 p.m. The theme will be Chattanooga Scenes.

Chattanooga Bach Choir cantata series
The Chattanooga Bach Choir will continue its cantata series on Sunday, May 21, 4 p.m., at Christ Church Episcopal, 663 Douglas St. The program will feature music by J.S. Bach for choir and solo instruments. Conductor David Long will present a 10-15 minute introduction to the cantata, with musical examples, before the performance. Arts grant winners reception
ArtsBuild has created a new Equity in the Arts grant program to support projects led by local African American and Latino artists. The public is invited to a reception for the grant recipients on Tuesday, May 23, 5-6:30 p.m., at ArtsBuild, 301 E. 11th St. Each recipient will have an opportunity to share his or her project at the reception. Beverages and light hors d’oeuvres will be provided and admission will be free.
La Paz fundraiser
On Thursday, May 25, La Paz Chattanooga will host its annual Sangria fundraising event to benefit the city’s Latino community. Sangria on the Bluff will take place at the Hunter Museum of American Art, 6:30-10:30 p.m. Members of the community are invited to experience homemade Latin cuisine provided by Ovalle’s Catering, fresh Sangria from several local restaurants and live mariachi. A painting demonstration by Alex Loza, a local Peruvian artist, followed by a Latin American themed performance by the Chattanooga Ballet, will kick off the event. Aventurero Mariachi will serenade the crowd with Mexican rancheras and DJ Flux 308 will wrap up the night by playing popular Latin dance music. Lecture and book signing at Townsend Atelier
Artist, author and human anatomy expert Roberto Osti will give a lecture at Townsend Atelier’s Southside studio on Friday, May 26, 6-7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Osti will discuss how the knowledge of anatomy, or the lack of it, has influenced the way artists have represented the human body in art. Following the lecture, Osti will be available to sign his new book, “Basic Anatomy: An Essential Guide for Artists.’’
Southern Lit Alliance hosts Lisa Wingate
Southern Lit Alliance will welcome author Lisa Wingate for an afternoon book club and an evening reception on Friday, June 14, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., in at ArtsBuild, 301 E. 11th St. Wingate will discuss and sign copies of her novel, “Before We Were Yours,’’ at both events.
