Carolina, George B. Randall, N. Carolina, and George B. Randall, North Carolina. Commencement will be June 1.
In a 36-hole match, Mrs. Alston Shoaf of Savannah, Ga., will play Miss Alexa Sterling for the Southern Golf Championship at the Chattanooga Country Club.
Edward Whiteside will return to New York this weekend. He was called home by the illness and death of his father, Mr. William M. Whiteside.
Monday, May 15
Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Dewitt Bachman of Briston, Tenn., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Annie Laura, to Dr. John Hamilton Revington of Chattanooga. The wedding will take place this summer.
Lawrence W. Faucette of Chattanooga, who won a Rhodes scholarship at Oxford University in England, will go to the Isle of Man to become associated with the International YMCA work among German prisoners. He was recently ordained a minister in the Episcopal Church and will return in September.
Mrs. J. M. Dodds and daughters, Mrs. Ernest Thurman and Mrs. Walter Stewart, will go to Cartersville, Ga., for a two-week visit.
Tuesday, May 16
Major Gen. Leonard Wood, head of the Army department of the East, arrived Monday to speak tonight to Chattanoogans, rookies and regular Army men at the Southern Military Training Camp at Fort Oglethorpe.
Mrs. T.C. Thompson, Jr., and Miss Jessal Holtzclaw entertained Monday with a luncheon at the Hitching Post for Miss Harriet Crouch of Clarksville, Tenn.
Wednesday, May 17
Chattanooga was shocked to hear of the sudden death from heart failure of Dr. John J. Manker while he was addressing the Book Committee of the Methodist General Conference at Saratoga, N.Y. Dr. Manker is the father of Mrs. John A. Patten.
Mr. and Mrs. John Preston of Los Angeles, Cal., have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Preston on Missionary Ridge. They will go today to Woodbury, Tenn., to visit Mr. Preston’s father.
Thursday, May 18
Mr. and Mrs. J. Carter and family will move today to their summer home on Lookout Mountain.
Mrs. R.M. Cleveland and Mrs. Joe Curtis have gone to Birmingham, Ala., to attend the Confederate reunion.
An ordinance will be passed today granting the Chattanooga Motor Bus Co. permission to operate passenger buses over a certain circuit in Chattanooga, according to Righter A. Cogswell, counsel for the company. The buses will carry 20 passengers.
Friday, May 19
Raymond H. Seagle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hannibal Seagle of Lookout Mountain, according to a message received Thursday, has been appointed secretary to American Counsul at Leipzig, Germany. Mr. Seagle is a graduate of the University Law School of Tennessee in Knoxville.
The Chattanooga Grammar Schools will hold their commencement exercises at the City Auditorium on Ninth Street, Tuesday, May 23 at 8 p.m. Prof. H.D. Wyatt will direct the musical numbers. Miss Maude Chandler will direct the physical training exercises, and Miss Emily Relfe will play the accompaniments.
Miss Sadie Magill is able to be out after an illness.
