CSAS wins $410K grant from TVA
Through a partnership with EPB, Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences has been selected to receive a grant of $410,000 from Tennessee Valley Authority’s Energy Right School Uplift program. The funding includes $400,000 for energy upgrades and a $10,000 Learning Environment Grant to make non-energy improvements.
As Hamilton County School’s oldest school facility, some portions of the CSAS building are more than 100 years old. The grant funding will be used to replace all of the school’s aging A/C window units with modern units and install energy efficient LED light bulbs throughout the facility.
School Uplift is a yearlong energy management training program developed with the state of Tennessee’s Energy Efficient Schools Initiative that helps public schools save money through decreased energy use.
Through the program, EPB Energy Pros worked with teachers at CSAS to complete an energy assessment while engaging students in a series of activities, including the formation of a student energy squad that enacted energy efficiency measures on a daily basis.
EMS to partner with Hixson High
Hamilton County School’s first “pipeline partnership” guarantees job interviews with the county’s ambulance service upon completion of program.
The partnership with Hamilton County Emergency Medical Service provides students in Hixson High School’s Health Science career and technical program with hands-on training to become a paramedic and an opportunity to earn a job with HCEMS upon graduation.
This partnership will provide students with experience working alongside emergency medicine professionals at the new HCEMS training facility.
The new pathway is part of a broader $3.25M commitment to career and technical education recently proposed by Hamilton County Mayor Wamp and approved by the Hamilton County Commission.
