The Better Business Bureau this month recognized local businesses with its Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics and announced the recipients of its Student of Integrity scholarships.
Recipients of a 2019 Torch Award are:
Category I winner: Top This Construction
Category II winner: Johnson Audiology
Category III winner: Armstrong Transfer & Storage
Category IV winner: Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union
Category V winner: Five Star Food Service
Nonprofit winner: Chattanooga Room in the Inn
BBB also achieved a milestone in its annual Student of Integrity scholarship competition, surpassing $140,000 awarded. The program is now in its 15th year.
This year, scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to 11 students, who competed by writing an essay on the importance of ethics in business and the community.
The competition was available to all high school seniors in the BBB service area of 21 surrounding counties in southeast Tennessee and northwest Georgia, with 135 entering the competition.
