The Highland Park Local Market, known as HILO, is bringing fresh local food to the heart of one of Chattanooga’s most community-driven neighborhoods. Launched April 25 at Highland Park Commons, the Saturday morning market runs from 9 a.m. to noon and features a rotating lineup of regional farmers, food producers and small businesses.
Organizers say the market was intentionally placed in Highland Park, an area with limited access to healthy grocery options, as part of a broader effort to connect residents with fresh, locally grown food. Across Tennessee, roughly 21% of residents live in areas considered food deserts, underscoring the need for accessible foodways like HILO.
The market is designed as a neighborhood gathering space. Visitors can grab coffee, browse produce and prepared foods, and spend time on the Commons’ lawn and playground. Vendors range from farms and dairies to bakers and wellness producers, offering everything from vegetables and flowers to sourdough and small-batch goods.
The market operates rain or shine, with free parking available nearby. Vendors currently accept cash, credit cards and Venmo, with plans to soon add SNAP/EBT.
