In March, the youth soccer players of Chattanooga Sports Ministries, a local organization that seeks to transform the lives of at-risk youth through athletic engagement, competed in the first game of CSM’s spring soccer season, which will run through May 19.
During the fall season, CSM recruited over 30 players, ages 9-14, from within Emma Wheeler homes in Chattanooga’s Alton Park neighborhood. The players spent several weeks getting together with their coaches for practices and then competing with other recreational teams in the area through the North River Soccer Association. The spring season will reunite these players for several more weeks of soccer and mentoring.
“We’re excited about getting our players back on the field, and are grateful to the NRSA for making this possible,” said Ben Johnson, executive director of Chattanooga Sports Ministries. “Both teams have made great progress since they started in the fall, and the girls impressed us by winning their first game of the spring season.”
Community members are invited to join CSM in support of the city’s youth by cheering them on at an upcoming game. A complete schedule can be found at www.csm.is.
CSM’s spring soccer season is made possible through the sponsorship of local businesses like the Dorothy Lee Grisham All State Agency, as well as its donors and volunteers.
