Saturday, April 5

Mrs. Will Rule of Amarillo, Texas is expected to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Schlesinger, for the summer months.

Miss Dorothy Tarwater of Rockwood, Tenn., will arrive today to visit Miss Augusta Gardenhire and attend the McAllester-Spears wedding.

Mrs. Dunbar Newell will entertain with a Box Party at the Bijou Theatre in honor of Mrs. Mac Irwin Idle of Salt Lake City, the guest of Mrs. N.C. Newell.

Sunday, April 6

New appointees for the Confederate Reunion are Mrs. James F. Finlay as chaperone for the Jonathan W. Bachman Camp, Miss Gertrude Alexander as her Maid of Honor, and Mrs. A.W. Boyd as Matron of Honor.

Mrs. J. Edmond Smartt was appointed Matron of Honor to the Sponsor in Chief by General Norfleet for the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Miss Anna Martin was appointed her Maid of Honor.

Henry Schwartz and his daughters, Misses Lilly and Cecile Schwartz, will leave soon for a summer’s travel through the important countries of Europe.

Mrs. T.H. Payne and Mrs. H.S. Chamberlain will leave Friday for Washington, D.C., to attend the Daughters of the American Revolution Conference. Mrs. H. Clay Evans will leave Thursday to join them.

Monday, April 7

Captain Gordon Johnson and Captain William McKinley have returned from Washington, D.C. to Fort Oglethorpe.

The gentlemen attendants of the McAllester-Spears wedding entertained with a well-appointed dinner at the Patten Hotel in their honor. Those attending were Misses Louise Spears, Blanche Snodgrass, Mary Steward, Edith McAllester, Nelson Chambliss, Dorothy Tarwater, Gertrude Alexander, Augusta Gardenhire and Evangeline McKinnon; and Messrs. Charles Coffey, Hugh Crumbliss, Edward Whiteside, Dr. J.A. Gentry, Will Shepherd, Warren Dewees, Lt. W.O. Spears, T.I. Peterman of Rockwood, and Quintus Shepherd.

Tuesday, April 8

Mr. and Mrs. Sam H. Campbell entertained with a dinner party at their home on Missionary Ridge in honor of Miss Willie Campbell, whose marriage to John Woodward will take place tomorrow. Covers were laid for 12.

One of the most elaborately planned spring weddings was that of Miss Marguerite Spears and Samuel McAllester, which was solemnized in the First Christian Church, with Dr. Ira A. Boswell officiating. Following the wedding, a large reception was held at the home of the bride. Mrs. McAllester, the daughter of Col. and Mrs. W. D. Spears, is a beautiful and popular member of the younger set. Mr. McAllester, the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.J. McAllester, is a well-known lawyer and athletic coach. Following the reception, the young couple left on an Eastern trip.

Wednesday, April 9

A miniature German village is to be set up in Warner Park, where Director C.A. Noone will present the “Pied Pipe of Hamelin.” It will have over 2,000 people participating in the dramatizing of this interesting poem. The participants will be mostly children. This will be an important feature during the Confederate Reunions.

Misses Virginia Hill, Grace Kalb, and Elizabeth Lee, Messrs. Hal Smith, Walter Wells, and Carl Douglass, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wester have returned from a motor trip to Cleveland, Tenn.

Thursday, April 10

The people of Hamilton County voted yesterday, defeating the bill for Commission Government. Due to the lack of interest, very few votes were cast.

An interesting wedding, socially, was that of Miss Wilhelmina Campbell to Mr. John Woodward of Tulsa, Okla. The wedding was solemnized at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. W.C. Campbell on McCallie Ave. Rev. J.W. Bachman of the First Presbyterian Church performed the ceremony. Following the wedding, a reception was held, after which the bridal couple left on a wedding trip.

Mrs. A.S. Gover presented her two daughters, Misses Louise and Grace Glover, at a reception Wednesday. Also honored were Mrs. Harry Griscom, recent bride, and Miss Cook. Three hundred guests were invited for both evening and afternoon affairs.

Friday, April 11

Judson Buchanan and his son, James, are in St. Louis, Mo., visiting Mr. and Mrs. Corliss Buchanan.

Mr. and Mrs. John Murdock of Newellton, La., will come for the reunion and to visit Dr. and Mrs. Dunbar Newell.
