Newsmakers: Community Foundation taps Craven for comms




Katrina Craven is serving as the new vice president of marketing and communications for the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga. Craven brings more than 25 years of experience in marketing, communications and public relations to the role.

Craven previously served as director of marketing and communications at the Gary W. Rollins College of Business at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she led branding, strategic communications, and public engagement efforts for over a decade. Before her tenure at UTC, Craven held key roles at the Hunter Museum of American Art and the Tennessee Aquarium.

Craven is a graduate of UTC, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications and served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The University Echo.

In her new role at CFGC, Craven will oversee all internal and external communications. She will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing and communications plan that aligns with the foundation’s initiatives. Additionally, she will manage the organization’s brand, content creation and stakeholder engagement while collaborating with senior leadership to support donor and community engagement.

Craven is the first person to hold this role at CFGC.

“Storytelling has always come naturally to me, and this new position at the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga feels like the perfect fit,” Craven says. “It gives me the opportunity to highlight the individuals, families and organizations who are dedicated to helping everyone in our region thrive. Mortgage Bankers name Parrish president

Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union mortgage loan originator Jessica Parrish will serve as the 2025 president of the Chattanooga Mortgage Bankers Association. Parrish will “work with fellow mortgage professionals to advocate for the industry, promote growth and innovation, and support initiatives that benefit both mortgage professionals and consumers in the Chattanooga region,” notes a news release from the CMBA.

“I’m honored to serve the Chattanooga Mortgage Bankers Association as president and excited about working with a talented group of individuals to help shape the future of our industry in Chattanooga,” says Parrish. “I look forward to continuing to serve both my clients and the community in this new capacity.”

Signal Centers adds 3 to leadership team

Three new deputies have joined the executive leadership team at Signal Centers. Jenny Wood and Joey Thomas will serve as deputy program officers and Sharon Green will serve as the deputy finance officer.

Wood and Thomas will focus on the strategic and operational goals for Signal Centers’ local programs. Green will assist with the management of the accounting department, including supervising staff and overseeing financial processes and reporting.

Wood was previously Signal Centers’ director of children’s services. She has been with the nonprofit since 2022, when she joined as an early childhood development coordinator. Wood earned a Master of Education in early childhood and special education at Grand Canyon University and a bachelor’s degree in social work from Austin Peay University.

Thomas joins Signal Centers from Cempa Community Care, where he served as director of community health since 2023. He earned a Master of Public Health from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a juris doctor from the University of Memphis and is a former lieutenant with the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Green was most recently the chief of operations at Olivet Baptist Church, where she developed a background in accounting, nonprofit leadership and systems management. Green is completing a Master of Public Administration and holds a Master of Science in leadership from Belhaven University.

RP Communities promotes Conry Miler

RP Communities recently promoted Conry Miler to investments and acquisitions manager. The newly created role tasks Miler with guiding RP through the process of identifying, evaluating and executing investment and acquisition opportunities. Miler’s work will involve financial analysis, due diligence, market research and risk assessment efforts1 that support investment decisions.

Before joining the team at RP, Miler gained experience in investment sales, lending and build-to-rent development.

Chambliss appoints Marshall as health care chair

The law firm of Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel recently tapped shareholder Cal Marshall the serve as the Health Care Practice Group’s new section chair. He succeeds Doug Griswold.

Marshall advises health care and business clients on regulatory compliance and transactional matters. He works with revenue cycle management companies, medical practices, startups, publicly traded companies and nonprofits on HIPAA, data privacy, telemedicine, Medicare enrollment, fraud and compliance, contract negotiation and mergers and acquisitions issues.

Marshall developed a background in health care policy and government oversight while serving as an aide to several members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the Chattanooga, Tennessee and American Bar associations. He serves as chair of the American Bar Association Health Care Section’s Health Lawyer editorial board and as vice chair of the ABA’s Interest Group and Task Force executive leadership team. Additionally, Marshall is a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Publishing Oversight and a member of the American Health Law and American Telemedicine associations.

Marshall graduated magna cum laude from Covenant College before earning his juris doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law.
