Mayor Jim Coppinger last week commended the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners for their unanimous vote, as the commissioners agreed to begin the architect selection for four of the six school projects recommended by the Hamilton County School Board.
Mayor Coppinger said, “This was a good day for education.” The commission approved the mayor’s request to move forward on selecting architects for four school projects. Those building projects include the construction of a new Ganns Middle Valley Elementary School and additions to three different schools: Nolan Elementary; Sale Creek Middle and High School which will include a cafeteria; and Wolftever Elementary.
The estimated cost of these four projects totals $48 million. This brings the amount of money Mayor Coppinger has committed to schools in his three-year tenure as Mayor to almost $100 million.
The projects recommended by the Hamilton County School Board will benefit a large number of students. Mayor Coppinger also said the projects will be carried out without raising anyone’s property taxes.
“We should be excited. We’re moving forward, and we’ll continue to build new schools,” he said.
