Schroeder’s Landscap-ing Firm submitted the low bid for planting trees and shrubs at the Ninth and Fourth Street interchanges on the Interstate Freeway System. This is the first Tennessee landscaping job on interstate highways.

Sunday, April 30

Dr. Le Roy A. Martin, president of the University of Chattanooga, announced Sunday receipt of a gift of $3,000 from the Mueller Company, for a four-year scholarship to the University. J.H. Wall, plant manager of Mueller here, said the scholarship is to go to a student planning to major in industrial engineering or business administration.

Monday, May 1

The new $1,900,000 wing of Hutcheson Memorial Tri-County Hospital opened to patients Monday.

Wednesday, May 3

President Kennedy, Wednesday, sent the name of John H. Reddy, Chattanooga attorney, as his nominee for the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee for the coming four years. Reddy is serving as acting U.S. Attorney by appointment of Federal Judges Leslie R. Darr and Robert L. Taylor, to succeed John Crawford of Maryville who resigned from office in January.
